Here we are again...a new year. I haven't done much in the way of losing weight except one thing... I signed up for weight watchers right before thanksgiving. My goal up till now was not to gain another oz. I've been doing ok until this week. Cooking and preparing, shopping and eating out have been horrible. But I'm not worried...another year begins soon and my resolve is strong. Weight watchers seems like the sensible way to go. I'm earnest in this pursuit and I intend to write it all down. Here I go! Happy New Year!!

Hurricane Irene

It's about 6am and the winds are a blowing. When I woke up I realized that we still have electricity so I put on the coffee and jumped online. I think that we're suppose to get the brunt of the hurricane today, Long Island is directly in its path. Mother Nature is a scary thing...earlier this week Long Island experienced an earthquake. Long Island never gets earthquakes. It lasted about 40seconds and it shook my office bldg. It was hard enough and long enough that everyone evacuated. That caused me fear, Where are my kids...are they ok....the cellphones are busy...take a deep breath, everything will be ok. Nothing bad came from that and we barely had a chance to think about it afterwards because the news turned to the incoming hurricane. For the past 3 days all we heard on radio was Irene is coming. Be prepared. Get Water, get batteries, get stuff!
And now she's here...It's Saturday, my 2 teenage kids are upstairs sleeping...my husband is still sleeping. I was watching the 80' pines in the front sway with the wind. I hope that this is a rough as she gets.
I'm going to try to cut some fabric for a quilt today to take my mind off the tree's.

Costa Rica

I'm headed to Costa Rica with my daughter in February. I'm excited to go back, I lived there for 4 months. It's a beautiful country, the people are wonderful, and I can't wait to show my daughter a "mild" 3rd world country. I say mild because Costa Rica may be considered 3rd world but they are so much better off than a lot of other countries. It's a good starting point for my daughter (17).
I do have some trepidations regarding this trip because the activities are geared towards teenagers and students and may be just a little to physically challenging for me. Hiking up a mountain? (if its not for hours!) White water rafting! and we're going to Zipline across a canopy.... I'm still overweight you know! and not in very good shape. I started on the treadmill though, to build some stamina. I know I can sit this stuff out...but when will I have a chance like this again? Anyway...should be interesting.

Flannel Quilt

Last Friday I went to Sit&Sew at PQ (local quilting shop) and I spent most of the time cutting up fabric for this flannel quilt I'd like to finish sometime before winter ends. I love those Sit&Sew's because all my quilting buddies come together...like a force of nature...and the night becomes a salve for the soul. I think it's so important for women to belong to a group...a good group... to share idea's, draw strength and be part of something...maybe its community? Anyway...here's some of the blocks.
